Desalination
After successfully engineering Ras Abu Fontas A
power and water station in Qatar, we were appointed engineer for
the B station. The 608MW plant comprises five gas turbine
generators with heat recovery boilers supplying steam to five
multi-stage flash distillers, providing a desalination output of
150,000m3/dayMott MacDonald is the world’s leading
consultant in water desalination – a vital technology for life
support in the Middle East and one that’s being taken up rapidly in
other countries experiencing water supply shortfalls. We have
engineered more than 25% of global capacity.
We're owner’s engineer for the 1550MW and
113,600m3/day Umm Al Nar combined cycle gas-fired power and water
station in Abu Dhabi. The £500 million plant will have a total
desalinated water capacity of 430,000 m3/dayWe have in-depth
experience of all desalination processes, inc-luding the thermal
processes associated with power produc-tion, stand-alone reverse
osmosis techniques and the emerging hybrid approaches. A leading
innovator in this field, Mott MacDonald is at the fore-front of
reducing cost and improving quality in desalination. Our comprehensive skills include:
- water master planning and demand growth prediction
- development of optimal desalination solutions
- feasibility studies and conceptual design
- environmental impact assessment
- development of desalination projects for private sector investment (independent water projects, independent water and power projects)
- specification, tender adjudication and contractor selection
- design review and construction supervision
- commercial and financial analysis
- due diligence
- troubleshooting
